The Parliament’s budget session is set to commence today with the address of President Droupadi Murmu to the joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

After this, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will table the Economic Survey in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Top Points On Budget Session

The Budget Session will begin with President Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of the two houses.
This will be followed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabling the Economic Survey 2024-25 in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
The survey, which has been prepared by Chief Economic Adviser V Anantha Nageswaran-led team, will give the official assessment of the performance of the country’s economy in the financial year 2024-25.
The challenges faced by the country will also be listed in the economic survey and a roadmap will be provided for reforms and growth.
On February 1, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will table the first Budget of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government’s third tenure amid reports hinting at significant change in income tax slabs.
In total, 16 Bills have been listed by the government. It also includes the Waqf (Amendment) Bill.
Other important bills listed for the Budget session include the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, The Railways (Amendment) Bill, The Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, The Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Amendment Bill, The Protection of Interests in Aircraft Objects Bill, and The Immigration and Foreigners Bill.
Ahead of the start of the budget session, all the NDA whips had a strategy meeting in which they discussed that all parties need to ensure maximum attendance of their MPs during the presidential address and finance minister’s budget speech
The Lok Sabha Business Advisory Committee meeting will be held at 1:30 pm and Rajya Sabha BAC will be held at 10 am on February 3.
As per the sources, the India bloc is likely to again table an impeachment motion against Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
The Budget session’s first part will conclude on February 13. The session will break for recess during which the Budget proposals will be examined.
On March 10, the session will again start and continue till April 4. There will be 27 sittings in the entire Budget Session.
Two days, February 3 and 4, have been provisionally allotted by the Lok Sabha for discussing the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address. The Rajya Sabha has kept three days for the discussion.
